Look out for SEED SPRANG! from the Mourning Son (when FATHER slew the fatted calf).
I'm very excited about this project that I've been working on for a few months now. It's dark, painful and heartbreaking, and has given me many formidable challenges. Below is a photo from set last night. And tonight's our last day of shooting!

The Asian American Film Lab's new show "Film Lab Presents" will be airing March 5th at 10pm on Channel 25 (Verizon FiOS) or Channel 22 (Cablevision) and one of my short film entries will be screening! I'm not sure which one, but I uploaded a picture in the event that it's "Sawaru."
In LA and anywhere outside of NY, the series will be available to view online at www.nyc.gov/vod via Video on Demand. Tune in the find out what happens next! Photo by Seth Canterbury. Copyright 2014 CanterburyCam Photography.
We grabbed these shots after attending the Top Ten Selection for the Asian American Film Lab's 72 Hour Shootout. Most of the awards had been given out months before in New York, but they saved one for the LA screening: an audience award. I voted for ColorTV Productions' The Bought. This team never disappoints. The link above will bring you to all the winners and many of the entrants including my team's entry Wedlocked. Go Team Ghetto Slate! Kind words from fellow playwright Penny Jackson above. Her collection of short stories L.A. CHILD AND OTHER SHORT STORIES is now available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Untreed Reads.
And for those avid readers, both Penny and myself are on Indie Theater Now; an extensive database of independently-produced theater from the New York stage. I was added to the database after my second play Two Days 'til Dawn ran at the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, and thanks to ITN you can read them online. If you're familiar with Off-Off Broadway then you understand how remarkably fleeting plays can be -- that one piece may be showing for a week at the Gene Frankel, a week at Under St. Marks, until it mysteriously evaporates into the ether (once the playwright has run out of money). ITN is a great site that gives longevity to theatrical pieces that wouldn't normally have such long term exposure. Kudos to editor Martin Denton and the New York Theatre Experience for making Indie Theater Now a possibility. I'm very excited to announce that Edna Talent Management has added me to their roster, which means I'll be seeing more of Toronto in the near future. It's kind of a homecoming as I lived on the outskirts of Toronto in a place called Vaughan for about a year. It would take a forty-five minute bus and a thirty minute subway to get into the city, but I usually had friends with me so it was worth it. One evening I remember cramming ourselves into Tallulah's Cabaret and seeing Daniel MacIvor in his charming yet haunting one-man-show Here Lies Henry. I recall that play because it was such an integral theatrical experience for me as a young actor. So electric and frighteningly intimate. I'm glad to have representation in a city that so molded my understanding of acting and theatre.
Edna Talent has been an agency for almost twenty years and represent some great actors and personalities... Eugene Levy, Lorne Cardinal, George Stromboulopoulis, Chris Leavins, Matt Babel, Rachel Blanchard, Maggie Castle, Jessica Holmes, Amanda Walsh... the list goes on with more (Canadian) household names. I'm glad to be a part of it. |
